At Antique Furniture Direct we stock a wide range of antique Victorian furniture ranging from Rococo influenced balloon back chairs to Neo-Gothic hall chairs as well adjustable piano stools, dining tables, side tables and Victorian sideboards and wardrobes. We sometimes sell items from later in the period such as Art Nouveau furniture and Aesthetic Movement furniture as well as the occasional Arts and Crafts piece. When selecting items to sell, we always look for furniture that is of a high quality and individual in style with wood such as mahogany, oak or walnut that displays a rich warm patina built up from years of wear and daily use, in turn hopefully offering many more years of enjoyment for you.
Victorian furniture dates from 1837 to 1901, during the reign of Queen Victoria and was marked by eclecticism. Much of the furniture from this period displays a flair for revivalism, drawing inspiration from gothic, rococo and classical forms often blending influences together in a heady eclectic mix of styles. Victorian furniture is often intricately carved and elaborate in design and this is especially evident in the High Victorian style dating from the early to mid-Victorian era. Later Victorian styles include Gothic Revival or Neo-Gothic, the Japanese influenced Aesthetic movement and the Arts and Crafts movement.
